A quick rant

I'm going to say something here that's not going to be nice so if you're easily offended please log off now.....ok don't say I didn't warn you (pls don't take this seriously)

Irene and VMA's:  why couldn't you take Jersey Shore away!!  Who in there right minds actually follows this excuse of a program?  Seriously folks, you have a show about six people that are about as useful as belly button lint but think they (the cast members) are so what's happening and relevant in the USA right now.  You have a couple a idiot guys that think they're gods gift to ladies (if you like orange glow-in-the-dark blow up dolls), a chubby short girl who can't leave her house without looking like a clown on acid and two other girls that're just there for bootie calls to whatever man that can follow them home!  Are you serious?!  How effing stupid do the people that produce this show think America is?

Opening yourself up

Btw, opened myself up to facebook.  We'll see what happens.  For me, I guess, this is more of a diary than a blog.  Hope everyone will take it with a grain of salt.

randomness

Here's what I've been thinking about:

Going back to school to become a nurse.  I'm pretty sure I can do it.  I've worked in a medical and research lab as a certified laboratory technician.  One thing I'd like to accomplish is to dispell a few myths.

Show of hands please:

You have a family member in the hospital getting ready for surgery.  Do you believe that you can hop down to the lab and donate blood for his/her surgery?

Please let me know.

Second:  I've been thinking about working for a non for profit organization.  Just something about them appeals to me.

Third:  I don't celebrate Christmas.  For me, it's always been a very commercial holiday; therefore I've stayed in my nice and cozy Florida home for the past ten years.  But...I've been thinking about going home this year for Xmas.  What do you think?

part duex

After I managed at two hour nap after my nummy lunch from Whole Foods, I was still thinking about that store.  We'd all like to eat healthier but sometimes it's just too hard.  Some ways we can incorporate healthier foods is to eat locally produced items.  The tziki I thoroughly enjoyed was produced in Boca Raton, just  a couple of hours from me.  Yes, I could (and will in the future) make my own but knowing that you can get products locally produced helps.

Now, here my problem with eating healthier.  I DO NOT LIKE COOKED VEGETABLES!!!  I'll eat most veggies raw but I have yet to find a veggie I liked cooked--and I've tried various ways of cooking.  What do I do?

There and back

Well, I made it to Whole Foods (well, I drove past it first--it's located in a two story building, it's on the bottom and Target's on the second floor).  I must say, the place is amazing.  It's the perfect place for someone wanting to eat all organic.  Be warned though--eating organic is expensive.  You need to weigh your finances vs your preference.  If you can afford it, go for it.  Or you can be selective with what organic goods you use.  I will tell you one thing though, this is the place where you can find just about anything.  I found the garam masala I was looking for. I bought a small container of pineapple chunks to eat on the way home (that's another post--traffic in Tampa!). I also bought a cheese I didn't know was vegetarian 'till I was putting it away (and it was cheaper than what i usually buy), Naan and an absolutely fantastic tziki.  That was lunch, btw.  Na'an and tziki.  They don't go together traditionally but they did a fine job for me.  So, what's the verdict?  I say, it's worth a trip or several.  I do want to go back and invest in some of their oils.  They had an amazing selection.  So, whenever I'm close by, I'm stopping in.  It's convenient that it's on the way to Raymond Jame's Stadium ('Bucs) and the George Steinbreiner Stadium.

Since I can't sleep

I've decided to go visit the nearest Whole Foods store.  I hear about them all the time on the web but haven't been to one.  Well, let me clarify.  I was in San Antonio about 2 years ago on business and after lunch, I managed to briefly stop in one but had to get back to work, so I didn't get a chance to explore one.  I have 37,000 square feet to explore today.  I know it's pricey so I'm not going to do major shopping but I am going to familiarize myself with the store.  It's not too far away, less than 20 miles.  I let you know what I think.

didn't happen

So far my sleep still eludes me tonight...bummer.  But I found some pictures that make me realize that I've been avoiding some friends.  I don't know why but I'll reach out to them later today and hopefully reconnect.  Wish me luck (both with the friends and sleep ;) )

sorry but i have to share

I'm going to bed!  Now, this may not be as exciting to you as it is for me but hear me out.  Besides having sleep apnea, I suffer from bouts of insomnia and August has been a bad month for me.  I haven't been to bed before 730 am in over a week and a half and usually I'm up by noon, feeling as if I haven't slept at all.  But tonight, it's 245 am and I can barely keep my eyes open.  Yeah!  Good night

Livin' for the Apocalypse

Just finished watching this show.  It's about four different families preparing for the end of times.  It was interesting, I'll give it that.  They fervently believe that the world is ending in 2012.  Interesting fact:  in 2012, my birthday will be 12/12/2012.  Hmmmm

2 pet peeves

Why, when there are many sports channels on cable these days, is it necessary to put sporting events on prime time cable (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc)?  Quit taking my shows off for sports!  that's why there's ESPN, etc.

Why, when there's 500+ channels, is there never anything on?  I'm seriously considering cancelling my cable.

What's some of your pet peeves?  Trust me I have more than two but I'm trying to cut down

Food Blogs

I love to read food blogs but let me clarify.  I love food blogs written by real people, not chefs or professional's.  Now, if they've become a professional food writer because of the success of their blog, I'll still give them a chance.  But usually, they get too fancy for me.  I like blogs that bring back the food from my childhood.  One of my personnal favorites is the Pioneer Woman.  I like her blog because it captures her whole life, not just her cooking.  I've slowly been making my way through her recipes.  One of my personnal fav's is her sloppy joe recipe.  It's absolutely perfect!  I found a recipe converter to halve the servings but found that once I ate it all, I wanted more!  Last night, at around 9 pm, I decided to make her lasagna  and it was easy and delicious! And, I had everything on hand so I didn't have to run out to the store.  I should've taken a picture but I dug in before I thought of it.  I'll post about my other fav blog sites more in the future.  Bye!

Name change

I decided to change the name of this blog because I've decided I'm not really starting over.  To me, that implies that you're ignoring everything you've learned up to this point.  I don't want to do that.  Everything I've experienced up to this point (the good, the bad, the ugly and the tasty)  has made me who I am today.

hobbies

In the past, when asked what my hobbies are I haven't always been honest. Some view my hobbies as childish, but you know what? I don't care anymore. I enjoy them and that's all that matters. So here are a few of my hobbies:

1. Reading. Love it. Especially sci-fi, paranormal romance and thrillers. Some of my fav authors are Sherilyn Kenyon, Laurell K Hamilton, Nora Roberts, JD Robb etc.

2. Movies. Love em as well. Sci-fi and horror especially but i won't say no to a good comedy. Not so fond of drama's 'cause there's enough of that in life

3. Cooking. I don't cook alot, because it's just me so when I do cook, I usually eat for days

4. Lego's. This started in childhood and has continued ever since. There's something about taking 1500 random pieces and making this:

(sorry on a harry potter kick right now :)

TV: I have my favorite show that i like to watch. There are too many to list here

So, what are your hobbies?

I originally started a blog about starting over at 40. I've just recently retired from a rewarding career after 22 years and had no idea what I wanted to do next. I still don't, for that matter, but I'm not stressing out about it (yet). Everyone was always asking, what are you going to do now, what's next, etc. that I was starting to freak out. It seemed to me that I should automatically know what I want to do next. But here's the thing: I don't know. So I've decided not to stress about it. I figure when I know, I'll know. I don't have alot of money but if budgeted carefully, I'll be fine. So we'll see where life leads me and hopefully you'll be here for the journey. Bye!

It worked...sort of

When I find I can't sleep, I'll try a couple of things.  Reread some of my favorite blogs (luv the pioneer woman and gluten free girl).  I enjoy reading how they started their blogs, met their spouses and the experiences they've had with their children.  I don't have kids myself but I love OPK's.  Or I'll lie in bed and make up a story.  How do you fall asleep at night?

Insomnia

I sometimes suffer from insomnia.  It's happened several times over the past couple of years.  I've went as long as 50 hrs with no sleep.  It's not that I don't feel tired.  I do!  a bone achingly tired that, prior to the first episode, I'd never felt before.  I've tried everything to get to sleep, from alcohol (don't judge) to benadryl to psychiatry and nothing has worked.  I haven't tried prescription sleep aids for two reasons: a) I've used ambien before and it didn't work and b) I really don't like the side effects of these meds.  Thanks but I'm chubby enough without sleep eating.  So tonight I'm going to do what I always do and hope it works.  Good night!

ADHD

Spent yesterday trying to clean my house.  My problem with cleaning is I'll start in one area, then I'll get distracted by something in a different area, then a different area and before you know it I give up and I have several messy piles.  That's what happened yesterday.  Started with the kitchen, moved to the dining room, then the livingroom before finally throwing my hands in the air and giving up.  Here's what I did instead:

Can you guess the movie?  Here's another hint

Just wanted one thing today

Today I just wanted to accomplish one thing:  go to Target and get a movie and a book that came out today.  So I shower, do my hair, get dressed and out the door I go!  Should be 50 bucks, top.  An hour later I'm 280 dollars poorer.  Walked out with two movies, two books, three set of lego's, a foot cream I'm told will cure my dry feet, various groceries I actually needed, two thing of sorbet I didn't need (couldn't resist the blood orange!) and a water-filter pitcher.  This is why I shouldn't be allowed out of the house :)

Confession

I'm a couch potato (or is the a recliner potato?).  I have a serious relationship with my tv. I love my shows.  My current favorites are Bones, Criminal Minds, Supernatural, Eureka, Haven, Rissoli and Isles, CSI: NY, NCIS, etc.  I pretty much love everything.  Can't wait for the new season to start.  It looks like there are going to be a lot of good shows coming.  If I had to pick one I don't think I could.  I absolutely love Haven.  Having been a longtime fan of Stephen King, I look forward to each episode.  If you watch closely, there are references to Stephen's other books.  What's your favorite show? or author?

Another Day

Hi!  I'm currently wavering between nursing, lab sciences and ecology.  Must narrow this down!

Missed day

Sorry for not posting yesterday.  I spent the day at my local VA.  Now, don't get me wrong, the mistakes that have been made at various VA's around the country are inexcusable.  They're tasked with providing healthcare to our most valuable people--those who've served their country and have sacrificed much.  That being said, so far my experience's at the VA have been very pleasant.  Everyone's been extremely nice, from the staff to the patients themselves.  My VA has had to expand into trailers and they've put a little goldfish pond on the path to the trailers.  Have you been to your local VA?

A Moment

Let's have a moment for Bubba Smith...an exceptional football player and an incredible actor

My Inspiration

My inspiration for this blog is the Pioneer Woman's blog.  We have nothing in common at all, I'm divorced, no children and live in Florida but I sill feel a kinship with her.  She seem's to have found inspiration or guidance with her reader's and that's what I want.  (But I wouldn't mind a MM of my own :) )

Question

Here's a question I have for you:

How, when you're shiny and new in college at 18,20, or 22, how do you decide what you want to major in?

When I was 18, I took a test that told me I should be either a dental lab tech, medical lab tech or an air traffic controller.

How did you choose your career path?

Background info

I've worked in the healthcare industry for the past 22 years.  I'm trying to decide between continuing on that path or trying something completely opposite, like getting a degree in ecology so I can become a park ranger :)  I'm giving myself a deadline of 1 September to make a decision.

Why I Started This Blog

Hello there!  Thank you for visiting my blog.  I decided to start a blog to help me decide what i wanted to do for the next phase of my life.  Let me give you a little background:  I've just retired from a career after 22 years.  I loved my job and value everything it taught me.  Now, I just have to decide what to do for the next 22 years.  I'll definitely be going back to school but I just can't decide what to study.  Any suggestions out there?
